Ana Elizabeth Figueiredo, RN, ENB 136, MSc, PhD, is a Full Professor at the School of Nursing, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She holds a master’s degree in clinical microbiology and a PhD in Health Sciences–Nephrology from PUCRS, with postdoctoral training at Imperial College London.
She currently serves as Chair of the Kidney Health Professionals Working Group of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Committee of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD). She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the International Home Dialysis Consortium (IHDC).
With over three decades of experience in Nephrology Nursing since 1985, her primary areas of interest include Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) patient education and quality improvement programs in PD. Dr. Figueiredo has published extensively, including authorship of the PD training guidelines for ISPD.
She is the recipient of the Barbara Prowant Lifetime Achievement Award in Nephrology Nursing (2014, Annual Dialysis Conference, University of Missouri, USA), and the Oreopoulos Award (2024, International Congress of Peritoneal Dialysis in Dubai).
She also serves as a consultant at the Dialysis Unit at Hospital São Lucas – PUCRS.
