The theme of the Congress is “Integration: PD for Everyone, by Everyone, Everywhere”. This is a very fitting theme for our times. For way too long, peritoneal dialysis has been considered as a dialysis modality for some patients, by some nephrologists, for some period of time. As such, the therapy has been much less available to patients with kidney failure than in-center hemodialysis. Yet, experiences worldwide belie that perception of the therapy. Clinical outcomes with PD in countries with “PD first” public policies, such as in Hong Kong and Thailand, are comparable to or better than seen with in-center hemodialysis. Rapid expansion in access with “PD-favored” public policies, such as in the United States, has been remarkably successful, effective and safe. Moreover, the simplicity of the therapy could make kidney replacement treatment available to millions worldwide that presently don’t have such access.
We welcome the full range of health professionals to participate in the Congress. The program is geared to serve the entire multidisciplinary team involved in the care of patients undergoing PD around the world – physicians, advanced health practitioners, nurses, dietitians, and social workers. The Local Organising Committee has developed a comprehensive scientific programme that will bring together more than 70 internationally recognised faculty members and experts from around the world. The programme will showcase the latest advances in peritoneal dialysis, present emerging evidence, and explore practical strategies to expand access to high-quality PD through multidisciplinary collaboration. There is something for everyone with workshops focusing on the basics of PD, hands-on access workshops all the way through to the basic science research.
As the first ISPD Congress to be held on the African continent, this meeting represents a particularly important opportunity to welcome our colleagues from across Africa. Peritoneal dialysis is especially well suited to many African healthcare settings, where it has the potential to improve access to kidney replacement therapy and support more equitable, sustainable models of care. We hope this Congress will strengthen collaboration, encourage knowledge exchange, and help advance PD throughout the region and beyond.
The congress is being held in conjunction with the South Arican Renal Congress and registration entitles delegates to attend sessions on topics such as transplantation, glomerulonephritis, pregnancy and much more delivered by a number of local and international experts.
Recognising the diversity of our international community, the scientific programme will also include parallel sessions in French to support participation by colleagues from francophone Africa and other French-speaking regions.

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Cape Town, South Africa, for the joint 18th International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) Congress, the South African Nephrology Society (SANS) Congress, and the Renal Care Society of South Africa (RCSSA) Congress, taking place 29 September – 3 October 2026. This landmark meeting marks the first time that the ISPD Congress will be hosted on the African continent, creating a unique opportunity to bring together the global kidney community in Cape Town.
Our Scientific Programme Committee has developed a rich and diverse programme designed to inspire, educate and connect delegates from across the world. A series of practical, interactive pre-congress workshops will provide outstanding opportunities for hands-on learning, skills development and professional collaboration across the multidisciplinary kidney care team.
We are particularly excited to host the African Policy Forum, bringing together clinicians, policymakers, researchers, patient advocates and healthcare leaders from across the continent. This forum will provide an important platform to examine the current state of kidney care in Africa, identify shared challenges, and develop collaborative solutions to improve equitable access to kidney replacement therapy. A central focus will be the role of PD-first and PD-favoured strategies in expanding sustainable, patient-centred kidney care across Africa.
