Dr Ali Abu-Alfa is a tenured Professor of Medicine and the Chairperson of the Department of Internal Medicine at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He is also a Professor Adjunct at the Yale University School of Medicine, Section of Nephrology.

Prof. Abu-Alfa is the founding Chair for the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis-Middle East Chapter (ISPD), and the current chair for the International Society of Nephrology – Renal Disaster Preparedness Working Group. He co-organized the ISPD 2024 Global Congress in Dubai.

He is a past-chair of the ISN Middle East Regional Board and completed a 3-year term as a member of the KDIGO Executive committee in Dec 2018. He served as President of the Lebanese Society of Nephrology and Hypertension 2018-2021.
